Cartoon: How does a simulation scientist work? A typical day

A few weeks ago CSCS had an open day. One of our purposes was to explain to the visitors how scientists use  the supercomputers to do their work. With that in mind, Maria Grazia created a short cartoon entitled “How do computational researchers work: a typical day”.

“I observe the world around me displaying all the facets of different natural phenomena and I want to understand them!  I have an idea and I start to formulate a hypothesis. I think about known physical laws, about scientific discoveries of the past and express them mathematically in a form appropriate for computer simulation” says the computational scientists in the morning. The day has been successful when he can say “Now I run my analysis to interpret the output. I can finally see whether my initial hypotheses were correct!”.
