Last October EPF Lausanne, the University of Lausanne and Vital-IT hosted a hpc-ch Forum on Hardware Life-Cycle and User Policies for HPC systems. As HPC service provider we are concerned with hardware lifecycle and usage policy. The management of aging hardware, setting rules for hardware renewal by balancing the energy efficiency and the users satisfaction, […]
At the 25 years SPEEDUP anniversary workshop, Thomas Schulthess, director of the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre – CSCS, presented the Swiss HPC strategy towards the exascale era. Through several application case studies he showed how the increasing diversity in architectural designs is influencing implementations and algorithmic choices – and thus driving application acceleration.
Helmar Burkhart presented a review of 25 years of SPEEDUP at the 41st SPEEDUP Workshop. He discussed the beginning of supercomputing in Switzerland with the installation of a first Cray 1S at EPF Lausanne in February 1986 – enabled by Professor Hochstrasser – followed by a Cray X-MP at ETH Zurich and a Cray 2 at […]
At the 41st SPEEDUP Workshop, Laurent Villard presented “Gyrokinetic simulations of turbulence in magnetic fusion plasmas”. Laurent Villard is Adjunct Professor at EPF Lausanne. His research interests include the fast ion driven instabilities of the Alfvén wave, MHD equilibrium and stability of toroidal plasmas and small scale turbulence simulations based on gyrokinetic theory making use […]
