Funding for new CSCS building confirmed

Monday, January 11th, 2010

On December 16th Dr. Fritz Schiesser, President of ETH Board, confirmed that the Swiss federal Parliament had passed the funding for the new CSCS building. This great news follows immediately on the decision by the Ticino cantonal Parliament to contribute 5 million CHF to the construction of the new compute center. As the city of Lugano had already granted construction rights for the land, the financial basis for this project is now complete. Construction work will begin in February 2010. One of the important corner stones for the successful implementation of the HPCN-Strategy is thus in place.

The research teams will collaborate with Cray’s European software partners. Cray has made an undisclosed investment in the University of Edinburgh’s new Exascale Technology Center, which is scheduled to be formally launched this month.
